Main identification characters
Looking as if it were part of the rock, the red scorpionfish is one of the most elegantly cryptic animals. Its reddish-brown colouration, distributed unevenly over its body, and the form of its face, with protruberances and appendages which seem not to be of the same animal, help to create its beautiful camouflage. The fish can even change its colour, adapting itself to the colours of the background over which it swims.
