Répartition géographique :
Egalement très présent à Tahiti dans les recifs coraliens et même dans les marinas et près des plages.
On peut facilement l'observer chasser les petits poissons. Il procède par approche lente et brèves accélérations de 1 à 2m comme les brochets.
Il se laisse approcher très près par les plongeurs, à la limite du toucher. Il semble même curieux du plongeur lui même, j'en vois souvent me tourner autour et m'examiner avec unbe certaine curiosité
