Main identification characters
The Longfin Bannerfish is recognised by the long tapering dorsal filament, white body with two broad black bands, and yellow soft dorsal and caudal fins.

Max size : 25,0 cm.
Possible confusions
The closely related Schooling Bannerfish, Heniochus diphreutes, looks very similar, but is distinguished by a more rounded profile under the head, a shorter snout , the second black band is located further forward on the anal fin, and a difference in the number of dorsal spines (12 vs 11).

Feed
A plantivorous species that generally remains within a few meters of the reef. Juveniles may sometimes pick on parasites on the epidermis of other fish.

Habitat

Coral
The Longfin Bannerfish is usually found at depths from 2-75m, in sheltered coastal bays and reef waters.
Geographical distribution
Indo-Pacific: East Africa and Persian Gulf to the Society Islands; north to southern Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Throughout Micronesia.
