Main identification characters
Parablennius gattorugine is a large blenny up to 30 cm in length. Parablennius gattorugine has a single branched tentacle above each eye. It is yellow-brown in colour, sometimes it can be greenish, with 7 or more dark bars running across its body from the dorsal fin to the underside.
Possible confusions
Parablennius ruber has a similar appearance but is red in colour.

Feed
Active mainly during dusk and dawn. Feed of invertebrates, algae and crustaceans.
Cycle of life / Reproduction
Spawns in March - May. Male guards the eggs from several females, until larvae about 1 month.

Habitat

Rocks
Adults live in rocky while young are found in shallow water (max 30 m) in the seaweed zone.
Geographical distribution
Northeast Atlantic: Atlantic coast from Ireland to Morocco; also in the Mediterranean Sea.
